Hiking Itterbeck Heath

Itterbeck

Itterbeck

The name Itterbeck is derived from the small river "Itter". There are extensive heathlands and woodlands in and around Itterbeck. There is a Protestant church in the Egge district, which is looked after by the parish of Uelsen. A special attraction is the "Egger Riese", an erratic boulder weighing several tons that was washed up here during the Ice Age.
Over the years, Itterbeck has developed from a farming community into a mixed-structure municipality with several medium-sized businesses and spacious housing estates.

Itterbeck also has a lot to offer tourists: In 2004, the "Hof für Heimatpflege" was created on the initiative of the "Itterbeck und Umgebung" local history association and with the financial support of the municipality and other funding bodies. A great deal of voluntary work has also gone into restoring historical buildings or erecting new ones and furnishing them with numerous valuable relics from times long past.

Coat of arms of the municipality of Itterbeck

Coat of arms Itterbeck

Description: In gold, a green wavy diagonal left bar, surrounded by three green spheres above and four below. Justification: The colors allude to the first part of the place name (Itter = heath); the sand and the plant growth. The wavy diagonal left bar represents the stream contained in the name of the municipality. The balls, which also appear in the coat of arms of the district and some neighboring villages (as so-called "Bentheimder Pfennige") are moved to the very edge here to indicate the location of Itterbeck near the border. Their number corresponds to the districts, three of which have their own school.
