The center of the joint municipality of Uelsen is the state-approved resort town of Uelsen, which has been of central importance since time immemorial. Alongside agriculture, services and trade played the main role in the development of a stable economic structure. Considerable infrastructural
efforts were successfully undertaken to improve
services of general interest and to create further economic
development opportunities. Today, trade, service businesses and crafts in particular ensure that the municipality of Uelsen and the surrounding communities are well supplied.
Tourism and tourism are also a key focus and important economic factor.
A large number of other craft and production companies are located in the Uelsen, Itterbeck, Wilsum and Wielen industrial estates and are an important part of the regional economy. Low location costs, sufficient available, fully developed and reasonably priced commercial sites in the immediate border area with the Netherlands offer good conditions for the establishment of further companies. At present, fully developed commercial plots of various sizes can still be offered there.
Settlements in the above-mentioned commercial areas of the member municipalities are promoted through favorable
land prices, among other things. In addition to the joint municipality administration, the mayors of the
member municipalities, as well as GEG (Grundstücks- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH) for the municipality of Uelsen and GGB (Grundstücks- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft Landkreis Grafschaft Bentheim mbH
for the municipality of Wilsum) are the points of contact.
According to an "SME guideline" issued by the district of Grafschaft Bentheim, grants can also be awarded to support individual companies in the district.
